Hours: 3:30 pm - 12:00am (8 hours paid with .5 hour unpaid lunch)

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The custodian assists in maintaining school buildings for a safe and clean environment.  Performs cleaning duties in facilities to keep areas in clean and orderly condition. Cleans classrooms, restrooms, offices, corridors, walls and windows.  Uses carpet cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The list is intended to be illustrative rather than complete and serves to show major duties and responsibilities and does not express or imply that these are the only duties to be performed by the incumbent in this position.  The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the School Administrator, OMT Supervisor and/or Superintendent.

  1. Perform overall building maintenance including but not limited to cleaning floors in classrooms, hallways, and stairways.
  2. Clear trash and maintain all trash receptacles in the school building.
  3. Maintain bathrooms in the building; duties including but not limited to cleaning sinks, toilets, water fountains, and replenishing bathroom supplies.
  4. Clean classrooms; duties including but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, washing blackboards and spot mopping.
  5. Maintain supplies and equipment in assigned closet.
  6. Assist with snow removal on walkways, steps and entranceways.
  7. Assists with the daily cleaning of the cafeteria.
  8. Assists in the completion of the workload in the absence of other custodians.
  9. Operate various types of equipment and machinery, which include water vacuum, hand trucks, vacuum cleaners, etc.
  10. Removes garbage from buildings each day.
  11. Assists in providing summer cleaning of buildings which includes lifting and removing furniture from school rooms, cleaning floors and blinds, washing walls, doors and furniture
  12. Report any malfunctions and maintenance problems. Discuss work problems and/or schedule problems with management.
  13. Provides assistance with any outside cleaning chores, which include sweeping sidewalks, and/or parking areas and picking up trash.
  14. May be required to lock and/or unlock doors at the appropriate times daily.
  15. Maintain strict confidentiality with respect to information concerning students, personnel and other administrative matters affecting the District.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Custodial Supervisor or Lead Custodian.
